Parur (Paravur), a town in Kerala, possesses one of the historic synagogues of the Malayalam Jewish community (Cochin Jews of the Malabar rite), dating from the 16th century. Listed as a protected monument, it bears witness to the long Jewish presence on the Malabar Coast, predating the arrival of the Portuguese.
