Panvel, a locality of southern Konkan in Maharashtra, is known for its Bene Israel community and its synagogue, one of the oldest in Maharashtra. Bene Israel families settled there as part of their dispersal throughout the coastal villages of the Konkan prior to the urbanization of the nineteenth century.
