Oudtshoorn, a town in the Karoo of South Africa, is the historic center of the prosperous Lithuanian Jewish community that dominated the global ostrich feather industry between the 1880s and 1914. The Jewish 'feather barons' built considerable fortunes, illustrated by the sumptuous villas known as 'feather houses' still visible in the town.

The days of this book
