Norwich, a medieval city in Norfolk, is known in Jewish history for the first recorded ritual murder accusation in England (1144), directed against the local Jewish community regarding the young William of Norwich. The Jewish community of Norwich, documented since the Norman Conquest, was among those persecuted during the riots of 1190, before the general expulsion of 1290.
