A great metropolis of medieval Khorasan, Nishapur (Neyshabur) was home to a significant Jewish community documented notably in the letters of the Cairo Genizah (tenth to twelfth centuries). Jewish merchants from Nishapur actively participated in Indian Ocean trade networks.
