Region: Caraïbes (Jamaïque)
Montego Bay, a port in English Jamaica, welcomed Sephardic Jewish merchants — largely originating from the Netherlands and Brazil — from the 17th century onward. A Jewish cemetery is documented at Montego Bay as early as 1672; the Jews of Jamaica enjoyed relatively extensive rights under the British Crown.
