Mediaș (Mediasch in German), a town in Saxon Transylvania (Sibiu County, Romania), welcomed a Jewish community primarily from the 19th century onward, following the relaxation of settlement restrictions in Transylvania. In May–June 1944, under Hungarian administration, the Jews of Mediaș were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau along with the Jews of Northern Transylvania.
