Lunéville, a ducal city of Lorraine, welcomed a Jewish community tolerated by the dukes of Lorraine in the 17th–18th centuries, before being annexed to France. Following the revolutionary emancipation, the community organized itself consistorially with a synagogue and communal institutions.
