Lučenec (in Hungarian Losonc) is a city in southern Slovakia (Banská Bystrica region), formerly part of Hungary. The Jewish community, present since the 18th century, was active in trade and industry. In 1944, the Jews of Lučenec were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau during the large deportations of spring 1944 in Hungary.
