Krasnaya Sloboda, a town on the opposite bank from Quba in Azerbaijan, is the principal settlement of the Mountain Jews (Juhuro) of the Caucasus. Considered the only Jewish town entirely populated by Mountain Jews outside Israel until the 20th century, it preserves synagogues, a Hebrew school, and a vibrant community life despite massive emigration to Israel.

The days of this book

This book bears no memory day yet. The sources that document Krasnaya Sloboda give years and centuries, never a day; we do not invent one.

You know a date — a remembrance, a hilloula, the anniversary of a departure? Give it its day
