Region: Algérie (Grand Sahara, wilaya de Tamanrasset)
Intersection register · custodian, not owner
In Salah is an oasis in the Grand Erg occidental, at the heart of the Algerian Sahara (present-day wilaya of Tamanrasset), a cardinal stopping point on the trans-Saharan caravan routes. A Jewish community, involved in long-distance trade (gold, ostrich feathers, salt), resided there from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century before dispersing to the cities of the north.
