Illigh, the former capital of the Tazerwalt in the Anti-Atlas (Tiznit province), welcomed Jewish merchants protected by local lords. These Jews participated in Saharan trade and silver craftsmanship. The Jewish presence there is documented for the 17th–19th centuries.
