Guatemala City, capital of Guatemala, welcomed Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish immigrants from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, primarily from Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The community founded synagogues and social organizations, constituting a modest but enduring Jewish presence in Central America.
