Gheorgheni (Gyergyószentmiklós in Hungarian), a city in the Székely Land in eastern Transylvania, welcomed a Hungarian-speaking Jewish community in the nineteenth century. The local synagogue partially survives. The community was deported to Auschwitz in 1944.
