Erzurum (ancient Theodosiopolis), a crossroads of trade routes between Anatolia and Persia, had a documented Jewish presence in the Middle Ages and the Ottoman period. Jews there participated in exchanges between the Ottoman Empire, Persia, and the Caucasus.
