A deep valley in the Moroccan High Atlas in the province of Tinghir, the Dadès valley was dotted with ksour where Jewish families had settled, integrated into the oasis economy as merchants, goldsmith artisans, and dyers. Emigration to cities and to Israel accelerated in the 1950s–1960s.
