Coro, a historic city in the state of Falcón in Venezuela, welcomed Sephardic Jews originating from Curaçao from the 17th century onward. Its Sephardic cemetery (1832), one of the oldest in South America, is intact and listed as a national heritage site. Coro was also the scene of an uprising led in 1831 by Francisco Espejo, a Jewish-Creole leader.
