Colchester (Essex) was home to a Jewish community in the 12th and 13th centuries, attested in the Pipe Rolls and records of the English royal Exchequer. The Jews of Colchester were primarily moneylenders and merchants; the community disappeared during the general expulsion of Jews from England in 1290.

The days of this book
