Region: Daghestan (Russie)
Buynaksk (formerly Temir-Khan-Shura), the historic capital of Dagestan under Russian rule, was home to a Mountain Jewish community (Gorskie Evrei) with a synagogue. The city was an administrative and commercial center of the Caucasian region in the 19th and 20th centuries.
