Bou Izakarn, a borough in the southern Anti-Atlas (province of Guelmim), welcomed Jewish artisans and merchants participating in the trans-Saharan commercial circuits connecting the Souss to Mauritania and Mali. These families emigrated to northern cities and to Israel during the 20th century.
