A town in the eastern Egyptian Delta on the route between Egypt and Palestine, Bilbeis is documented in the Cairo Geniza as a place of Jewish presence in the Middle Ages. It served as a stopping point for Jewish travelers and merchants between Fustat and the Holy Land.
