Beit el-Faqih is a market town on the coastal plain of the Tihama (western Yemen) that sheltered a traditional Jewish community engaged in crafts (goldsmithing, weaving) and small trade. As in other towns of the Tihama, Jews occupied a distinct quarter and maintained close economic relations with the surrounding Muslim populations.
