History register · custodian, not owner
A non-profit organization founded in Vienna and Budapest in 2000, Centropa collected more than 1,200 oral testimonies from Jewish survivors in 15 countries of Central, Eastern, and Balkan Europe and the former USSR, accompanied by 25,000 digitized family photographs. Its holdings form a unique visual and oral memory of Jewish life in the twentieth century in these regions. The entire archive was acquired by the USHMM in Washington, which now oversees its preservation and dissemination. Centropa continues a major online education program aimed at young Europeans.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
