A research association based in France, dedicated to the study and Memory of Egyptian Jewry, whose presence dates back to the Pharaonic era and whose flourishing community (80,000 people in 1948) was almost entirely expelled between 1948 and 1967. The CREJE collects family archives, photographs, and ritual objects from families of Alexandria and Cairo settled in France, Israel, Brazil, and the United States. It works in conjunction with the Communauté israélite du Caire — the last representative body managing the Ben Ezra (Fustat), Sha'ar Hashamayim, and Eliyahu Hanavi synagogues in Alexandria — and with the Egyptian government for the preservation of these monuments. The center publishes studies on Judeo-Egyptian literature, the music of Alexandria, and the Karaite families of Egypt.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
