Municipal theater of Tel Aviv founded in 1944 by Josef Millo, in reaction to the expressionist style then dominant. Animated by Israeli artists, it privileges local theater and avant-garde West European repertoire. Recognized as a municipal theater in 1970, it moved in 2003 to the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center and received the Israel Prize in 2005.
