Region: Tolède, Espagne
History register · custodian, not owner
The Biblioteca de Castilla-La Mancha, housed in the former convent of San Juan de los Reyes, inherits a Hebrew collection originating from the confiscations of 1492 and the archives of the Toledo Inquisition. It preserves philosophical manuscripts and documents of forced conversion that shed light on the life of the Marranos of Toledo. This collection, little known outside Spanish circles, also includes Sephardic liturgical parchments. It is essential for the study of the transition between medieval Iberian Judaism and the Sephardic diaspora.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
