The Archivo Histórico Nacional in Madrid holds the Inquisition section, assembled from 1896 onwards from the archives of Simancas and Alcalá de Henares and completed in 1914. This collection of some 7,000 bundles and registers emanating from the Council of the Supreme Inquisition and its district tribunals constitutes the principal archival source on the trials of Judeo-converts (Judaizing conversos) in Spain, its American colonies, and Italy. It documents the identity, religious practices, and family networks of Iberian crypto-Jews over more than three centuries. The holdings are accessible through the PARES portal of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
