Founded in 1918 to present a unified American Jewish position at the Paris Peace Conference, then reorganized in 1922 under the presidency of Rabbi Stephen S. Wise and structured durably in 1928. More combative than the American Jewish Committee, it defends civil rights and Jewish interests in the United States.
