Disciple de Simha Bunim de Pshiskha (et du Voyant de Lublin, de David de Lelov). Après la mort de Simha Bunim, il rassembla une partie de la communauté et fonda la dynastie de Vorka. Devenu représentant officieux du judaïsme polonais, il négocia auprès des autorités l'abrogation de décrets hostiles (conscription des jeunes Juifs — cantonistes, 1827 ; interdiction du vêtement traditionnel).
