Kabbaliste espagnol de premier plan, élève de R. Samuel ibn Shraga. Après l'expulsion d'Espagne (1492) il connut de grandes souffrances (relatées dans l'introduction de son œuvre) et s'établit à Mantoue. Il composa au début du XVIe siècle Minhat Yehuda, commentaire du Ma'arekhet ha-Elohut, œuvre majeure de la kabbale de la génération de l'expulsion.
