Né à Brody en 1726, disciple du Baal Shem Tov puis du Maggid de Mezritch. Prédicateur (« Maggid de Zlotchov ») et kabbaliste, il forma une cour hassidique influente. Il n'écrivit pas lui-même de livre : ses enseignements furent transmis et publiés par ses disciples et descendants, notamment dans le recueil « Mayim Rabbim » (מים רבים), rassemblé par R. Nathan Neta Donner, et dans l'anthologie « Likkutei Yekarim ».
