Kabbaliste castillan, fondateur d'une dynastie savante. Il écrivit le Sefer ha-Emunot (« Livre des croyances »), attaque de la philosophie aristotélicienne et éloge de la Kabbale. Son fils Joseph ibn Shem Tov et son petit-fils Shem Tov ben Joseph ibn Shem Tov furent eux aussi philosophes et prédicateurs de premier plan.
