Reçut son éducation générale et juive à Prague et y enseigna la religion. En 1906 il fonda et dirigea le Musée juif de Prague, dans le vieux cimetière. Publia des travaux d'histoire des Juifs de Bohême (David Oppenheim, Ezekiel Landau, Eleazar Fleckeles, l'imprimerie hébraïque pragoise, l'expulsion de 1745 par Marie-Thérèse).
