Riche financier juif du Caire, maître de la Monnaie (mint-master) et fermier des impôts au service du gouverneur ottoman. Il protégea et finança Shabbetaï Tsevi lors du séjour de celui-ci au Caire (v. 1660-1662) et organisa son mariage avec Sarah. Il était aussi un soutien financier de la communauté de Jérusalem, souvent menacée par les taxes.
