Né en 1831 à Rabat, kabbaliste surnommé « Hameloumad benissim » (rabbin réputé thaumaturge). Disciple de Rabbi David Ben-Shim'on, il monte en Terre Sainte en 1854 et devient dès les années 1860 émissaire (chalia'h) de la communauté maghrébine (« Éda Ma'aravit ») de Jérusalem.
