Fils du rabbin Salomon Samama et d'Aziza Krief. Caïd des Juifs de Tunis, considéré comme le chef de la famille israélite la plus riche et respectée de la Régence ; mécène des études talmudiques, il finança l'impression d'ouvrages à Livourne. Sa succession donna lieu à un procès célèbre.
