Né en 1827, élu grand-rabbin de Tanger vers 1853 et en fonction jusqu'à sa mort en 1917. Grande autorité rabbinique consultée par de nombreux rabbins du Maroc et d'ailleurs, il présida le beth-din et la yeshiva de Tanger, et réforma le « Maamad », conseil de gouvernement de la communauté.
