Juif séfarade d'origine converso (Séville), arrivé à Newport via Curaçao en 1748. Deuxième marchand le plus puissant de la communauté juive de Newport après Aaron Lopez (son cousin, puis gendre par le mariage de sa fille Sarah en 1763). Crédité de l'introduction de la fabrication de bougies de spermaceti dans les colonies américaines et membre fondateur de la United Company of Spermaceti Candlers (1761).
