Né en 1902 en Ukraine, mort en 1979 en Israël, il fut le premier réalisateur de longs métrages de fiction du Yishouv. Il réalise Oded Hanoded (« Oded le vagabond », 1932/33), considéré comme le premier long métrage de fiction hébreu, produit dans la Palestine d'avant l'État (producteur Nathan Axelrod, d'après le livre pour enfants de Tzvi Lieberman-Livne).
