Historical Cartography by Era
Watch the Jewish world move: twelve maps, one per era, animated from −4000 to today.
Principle
To each canonical period corresponds a thematic map that restores the state of the Jewish presence at that moment: centres of life, trade routes, political borders, dominant languages. A temporal slider animates the succession: communities appear, move, disappear; migratory flows come to life; historical maps follow one another.
Planned features
12 thematic maps
One per canonical period — from the patriarchal era to today.
Chronological animation
Timelapse from −4000 to +2026; communities are born, migrate, fade away.
Inter-period comparisons
Display two periods side by side to grasp the evolution.
Superimposed historical maps
Georeferenced period base maps (e.g. Tabula Peutingeriana, medieval maps).
Inspiration
The Running Reality and Chronas projects for the chrono-cartographic timeline paradigm. Planned for Phase 3 of the roadmap.
