Gouverneur et explorateur égyptien, il mena quatre expéditions en Nubie sous les VIe dynastie. Son autobiographie, gravée dans sa tombe à Assouan, est l'un des plus anciens récits de voyage connus, incluant une lettre du jeune pharaon Pepi II.
