Chendamangalam (Kerala) housed one of the synagogues of the Malabar Jews of Cochin, whose origins trace back to the sixteenth century. The local community, integrated into village life, declined gradually throughout the twentieth century as members emigrated to Israel, leaving the synagogue nearly deserted.
