Only reigning queen of Judea (76–67 BCE), she presided over a golden age of peace and prosperity. Allied with the Pharisees, she fostered the flourishing of rabbinic academies. The Talmud (Taanit 23a) evokes her reign as a blessed time when rains fell in abundance.
