Dernier pharaon de la IIe dynastie, il réunifia l'Égypte après une période de troubles. Son enceinte funéraire à Abydos est le plus ancien édifice en pierre d'Égypte. Il ouvrit la voie à la IIIe dynastie et à l'ère des pyramides.
