Fondée le 20 juillet 1926 par des immigrants juifs ashkénazes d'Europe de l'Est installés à Recife depuis 1910, la synagogue fut d'abord appelée « Shil Sholem Ocnitzer » puis « Synagoga Israelita da Boa Vista » avant de prendre son nom actuel en 1987. Elle est sise au 29 rue Martins Júnior dans le quartier de Boa Vista à Recife et a célébré son centenaire en juillet 2026.
