❧ Description
Volume II of the Responsa of the Rashba (Shelomo ben Avraham ibn Adderet, 1235-1310, chief rabbi of Barcelona), a fundamental casuistic collection of medieval Sephardic jurisprudence, in twenty-five parts. Colophon (fol. 256): “Volume II was arranged and written by Ḥayyim ben R. Moshe ibn Ḥabhibh in Fès, completed 12 Nisan 5265 = 1505.” The ibn Ḥabib family is attested among the 1492 exiles who took refuge in Fès. On the flyleaf, an inscription by Yehuda Azulai in Jerusalem (probably the Ḥida, 1724-1806) underscores the importance of the work. Sephardic rabbinic script, 313 leaves.
