Established in the former Royallieu barracks in Compiègne, this transit camp came under German control from 1941. It was used for the internment of resisters, hostages, and Jews: it was from Compiègne that the first deportation convoy of Jews from France to Auschwitz departed on March 27, 1942. As the point of departure for numerous deportees, both resisters and Jews, the site is today a memorial to internment and deportation.
This Great Book does not yet have published chapters. The chapters — each bearing its register, its epistemic status and its sources — will be added as editorial enrichment and assisted generation progress.
