High Priest of Jerusalem, one of the last members of the Great Assembly. The Talmud (Avot 1:2) records his teaching: "The world rests on three things: the Torah, divine service, and acts of loving-kindness." Ben Sira (Sirach 50) paints a grandiose portrait of him.
