King of Judah, religious reformer who resisted the siege of Jerusalem by Sennacherib of Assyria (701 BCE). His Siloam Tunnel, a masterpiece of engineering, is attested by a Hebrew inscription discovered in situ and preserved in the Istanbul museum.
