Né à Erfoud, il fut ordonné par le Baba Sali, le Baba Haki et Rabbi Meïr, fils du Baba Sali. Il exerça comme shohet-bodek, mohel, enseignant (melamed) et prédicateur (darshan), et se distinguait surtout par sa crainte du Ciel. L'ouvrage « Maor Israël » rapporte que le Baba Sali ne donnait de lettres d'approbation qu'à quelques élus, dont cet auteur.
